A bet on the future
Tyresö municipality is expanding and has a vision that by 2030 they will be the Stockholm region’s most attractive municipality with 60,000 inhabitants. The new district of Norra Tyresö Centrum is part of this important and exciting initiative. Here, Hemsö, with liljewall as architect, interior designer and landscape architect, has built the Sköndalsvillan retirement home.
Sköndalsvillan is one of six Swedish pilot projects for the new ZeroCO2 certification initiated by the Sweden Green Building Council.
Community and the encounter in everyday life
There are 80 bright and pleasant living rooms and 12 short-term accommodations for the elderly, adapted for a comfortable and independent lifestyle as possible. The interior design is in a harmonious color scheme inspired by forests and nature with furniture in light birch and textiles in natural, green, calming colors. The goal has been to create a comfortable and soothing home feeling. Meeting in everyday life and enabling social interaction has been at least as important. On all floors there are living rooms and dining rooms where residents can socialize. At the top of the building there is a meeting room with a lush and verdant roof terrace with a greenhouse for growing.
The farm is surrounded by greenery and places to relax with loved ones.
The roof terrace is framed by wood, and there is also a greenhouse where residents can meet their relatives.
Taking the lead in the construction industry’s climate work
In 2021, the project was named ZeroC02 Project of the Year by the Sweden Green Building Council, and was also qualified as a finalist in the Environmental Building of the Year category. In order to achieve ZeroCO2 certification, several important decisions have been made when reviewing the material choices. The frame consists of solid wood and lighter interior walls made of wooden joists. The facades have been built with recycled bricks in two different shades. Recycled bricks have approximately 96% lower climate impact than newly produced ones. The entrance floor and garage are made of climate-reduced concrete, which has 30% less impact than regular concrete. At the balconies and on the recessed penthouse, the facades are clad with heat-treated pine. The balcony slabs, stairs and railings are also made of solid wood. Finally, the roof has been equipped with sedum plants and solar panels.
“Combining Hemsö's wishes has been an inspiring and challenging assignment. Together with them, a competent developer and creative and experienced consultants, this has been a fun and educational journey.”
