Mölnlycke Fabriker Idrottshall

Mölnlycke Fabriker Idrottshall

Gymnastics and trampoline hall Mölnlycke Fabriker

Amid genuine industrial environments, a new sports cluster is emerging in the new district. Here, the cultural heritage that the place carries with it is managed and developed. On behalf of Wallenstam, we have participated in the strategic work on the concept and content for the transformation of Mölnlycke Fabriker as a sports and activity center. This is where the idea for the garage was born; a new building volume within Mölnlycke Fabriker with parking for approximately 540 cars, a gymnastics and trampoline hall and an activated entrance path for sports and play. In the area, we have also designed housing and the Wallenstam arena. The vision was to create a seamless fabric of history, sports, health and entertainment for tomorrow's way of life.

The project includes a new construction, renovation and extension of the factory area with the aim of creating a rich environment for the local area and a sports cluster for the municipality.

Prerequisites

The project includes a new construction, renovation and extension of the factory area with the aim of creating a rich environment for the local area and a sports cluster for the municipality.

Enabling conditions for good social sustainability has been an important part of the project and the development of Mölnlycke Fabriker as a whole. Here, a clear identity with historical roots is being formed, which creates a sense of attractiveness, participation and belonging. Here, everyday life will flow and a new pedestrian and bicycle path will be built, including a bus stop adjacent to the arena. The space between the Garage and the existing brick building is activated through a variety of environments that encourage both physical activity and breaks.

Overview of the area. The trampoline and gymnastics halls are both included in the colorful garage building volume for which we took inspiration from the parking garage in Vallastaden, designed by AG architects.

Green roofs

The roofs will be covered with parking spaces and green sedum roofs and the exterior will be clad in solar panels of different colors. To create an inspiring activity environment for health and movement, the interior has also been equally important. The interior and color concept runs in a harmonious, soft scale and weaves color in a balanced way as an identity-creating element in both halls.

The gymnastics hall's interior color scheme is taken from and inspired by Pixbo gymnastics club's own colors, dark violet and cerise to create recognition and pride.

In close dialogue with the active practitioners

During the work, it was important to capture the various youth activities’ own thoughts on design and concept. Through conversations, workshops and dialogues, several exciting ideas have emerged, which are now being realized. Pixbo gymnastics club’s own club colors in dark violet and cerise, for example, guided and inspired the color scheme of the gymnastics hall’s eye-catching and toned background wall.

When creating the sports halls, it was important to have specially adapted solutions for the two activities. For example, the trampolines are lowered 2.5 meters into the floor for safety reasons, while the ceilings are high, as the gymnasts sometimes jump, twist, and rotate 8-9 meters into the air. Installations, fixtures, and placement of lights are also adapted so as not to dazzle or get in the way.

Both halls were presented to the youth boards/practitioners who were allowed to influence the color scheme - here you can see a soft green-blue tone that colors one wall.

In the summer of 2021, the harmoniously colored halls opened to welcome expectant practitioners. The new premises offer conditions that the clubs did not have before.

We have also designed Wallenstam Arena in Mölnlycke Fabriker. With two large halls and space for approximately 1,600 seated spectators, a café, exhibition space and small retail premises, it is the largest sports arena in Härryda municipality.
