Västerås' new swimming pool aims to be a swimming hall that suits all bathers, regardless of background, swimming experience and physical ability. There are pools for competition, diving, rehabilitation and teaching, and a gym section. The design language is modernist, strict and stylish with large canopies, bright facades and warm wooden elements. It is an inviting swimming hall where generous glass sections connect the pools with the surrounding nature and Lake Mälaren. In addition, the outdoor pool has been rebuilt and added with a children's pool and associated splash area as well as two new slides.

A large and inviting bathhouse
The new Lögarängsbadet is located next to Lake Mälaren along a pedestrian and recreational path, a few minutes’ walk from central Västerås. It is a large swimming facility with a 50-meter pool, a grandstand with 1,300 seats, two multi-purpose pools, a specially designed play pool and a gym. Directly adjacent to the bathhouse is an outdoor pool that is accessed from a shared entrance hall. The entrance hall is also the entrance to the grandstand to control its dry visitor flows separately from wet bathers.
Modernist, stylish and cozy
The design language is modernist, strict and stylish with light facades and elements of warm wood. The facades are made of light-painted concrete with a stripe that creates life.
Inside, you move between a play of large and small rooms with different characters. The larger room volumes follow a calm color scale in black, white and heat-treated wood paneling and allow both the pools and the nature outside to take up a large space. In between, you move through smaller rooms with a more colorful expression in striped blue, green and turquoise, a pattern that also creates a safer immediate environment in, for example, shower rooms. These colorful elements also return as a playful element at the children’s pool and diving tower in the pool areas. The play pool for the little ones has found its inspiration in the port and cargo operations that previously existed on the site.

Flows and function
Designing a bathhouse involves many complex issues. Desires for great flexibility, high environmental goals, new technical solutions and new population groups among the visitors are some of the important aspects that we have carefully weighed in the project. In addition, it is a facility that will stand for many years and have a design where everyone will feel welcome.
Great importance has been placed on creating a changing area where everyone can feel comfortable. In addition to the men’s and women’s sections, there are two flexible rooms and a combination room with cabins that offer great flexibility. The colorful shower rooms are divided into smaller fractions and there are also separate showers for those who want to shower individually. Social areas, such as the sauna and make-up areas, are located in gender-neutral spaces where everyone can meet.
