Hedin

Office for Hedin Group / Mölndal

The sharp metal facade of the new headquarters accentuates dynamism and technical precision and has been shaped as a reaction to the surrounding intense traffic landscape – a building to be experienced in motion. The interior contrasts and welcomes with a softly shaped environment where the open entrance hall invites social meetings and modern workplaces. There is also a restaurant, auditorium, conference department and gym.

The sculptural form of the exterior continues into the public spaces with surfaces of perforated sheet metal, glass and lasered wood in dark colours. The interior environment is complemented by warm elements of copper and leather, which create a cozy feeling, while contrasting with the austere shell.

It started as a family business

The new office building accentuates movement, elegance and dynamism and underlines the corporate identity of a company that today constitutes the largest group for vehicles and vehicle services in the Nordic region. The family business Hedin Bil was founded in 1985 and its main business is the sale of cars for a large number of brands including aftermarket, service and maintenance. The new headquarters brings together previously scattered departments under one roof and becomes an important social meeting place for the entire group.

The car is a symbol of freedom and mobility, and the irregular geometry of the volume, with both angles and curved shapes, underlines the sense of movement when viewing the building from a distance.
The design of the road and landscape has been similarly designed with a chicane-like stretch of road inspired by the racing world. The graphic layout of the ground emphasizes an orthogonal grid that allows the dynamic form of the building to emerge, and the linear, shaped hedges of the sculpture garden frame the restaurant's serving areas.

A social meeting place

The heart of the building is the entrance hall. Light flows in from several different directions, creating an exciting space that varies throughout the day. The centrally located sculptural staircase, together with tilted walls, also emphasizes the feeling of movement in the interior. The material choices are characterized by reflective metal in combination with soft textures and colors and convey the same qualitative materiality as the interior of a car. The entrance hall also has great importance as the social meeting place for the company. The room houses a café, lobby and places for spontaneous meetings. It also houses social activities such as a restaurant, gym and lunch room. When employees then move up the stairs, they experience the entrance room from several different angles and gain interesting insights into the building’s connecting rooms such as the auditorium and conference room.

Varied and dynamic

From the entrance hall, you then move into more traditional office spaces with a combination of open landscapes and smaller office rooms. Here, the facade with the irregularly placed windows clearly makes itself felt. The varied and dynamic light means that no room is the same as the other, and the different window positions provide exciting views from both standing and sitting positions. The building’s shape and expression of constant movement become prominent in this way, from the sculptural exterior to the smallest office rooms. Its variation creates a varied and stimulating work environment as well as a representative headquarters.
